First of all, the CKS Symbol is NOT the same as the biohazard symbol. If
any relation, the CKS symbol is the inverse of the biohazard. That being said, the CKS
symbol is almost as difficult to draw as the biohazard.
If you attempt to draw the CKS symbol freehand, you probably won't draw it
accurately. There is some math behind the shapes and positions of the different
elements in the symbol. Refer to the diagram below:
- Blue Triangle:
- The blue triangle outlines the center piece of the symbol.
The verteces of the blue triangle are also the midpoints of another.
- Red Triangle:
- The red triangle's verteces mark three points on the circle.
With these three points, the radius of the circle can be found. The midpoints of each side
are the verteces of the blue triangle (and, respectively, of the center piece).
- Fuchsia Triangle:
- The fuchsia triangle's sides are parallel to the
blue triangle's sides. The verteces of the fuchsia triangle mark three more points on the ring.
The sides of the fuchsia triangle are the tangents of the crescents.
- Black Pentagon:
- The black pentagon marks the points for the three crescents. Also, the top and bottom
points from the red and fuchsia triangles mark the midpoints of two sides of the pentagon.
As you can see in the diagram above, if you compare the center piece to a triangle, they're
not a perfect match. The center piece is similar to a triangle, but the edges curve in. Refer to the
diagram below:
What you see in the diagram are three transparent blue circles and an opaque red square. The three
circles are brought together so their tangents touch, but they do not intersect eachother. The
red shape in the center is the shape of the center piece of the CKS logo.
With the data provided above, you should be able to draw the three crescents. You know their
end points, and you know that the midpoint of the arc is on the fuchsia triangle's side.
A tip for if you draw the CKS symbol is to make the final product be monochrome. The symbol
AiChaos created is all red, on a white background. This makes it easy to cut-and-paste into image
editing programs and modify. The limegreen symbol used in the logo and the top diagram were obtained
from the red and white template.
